To prepare for NextGen CM/ECF, you must do several things.

Your PACER account will be your login, therefore you must have your own individual PACER account. CM/ECF users will not be able to use shared PACER accounts.

Step 1. Get your own individual PACER account, if you don't already have one. If you already have a PACER account, go to Step 2.

Your PACER account will be linked to your CM/ECF filing account after NextGen implementation.

Step 2. Upgrade your Current PACER account

If you have your own individual PACER account that was created prior to August 11, 2014 (also known as a legacy account), you must upgrade your account before you can electronically file in a NextGen CM/ECF court.

If you do not have your own individual PACER account (i.e., if you share a PACER account with others in your firm), refer to the instructions above to register for a new PACER account.

Step 3. Register for a PACER E-filing username and password

At the PACER Web site

click on the Register tab and follow the instructions.

Upon your successful completion of our training certification requirements and your PACER registration, the court will activate your PACER E-filing account.

You must now use your upgraded PACER account to log in to NextGen CM/ECF in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court - Southern District of California.

You also can use this same linked PACER account for CM/ECF logins only in other court units using NextGen CM/ECF. (If you file in courts that have not converted to NextGen CM/ECF, you must continue to use your current log in and password in those courts until they convert to NextGen CM/ECF.)
