The Legal Aid Society of San Diego, Inc. launches their new Bankruptcy Self-Help Center at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, 325 West F Street, San Diego on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm and will continue every Wednesday thereafter during the same hours. No appointments are necessary. The Self-Help Center will be located in the Court Library on the 2nd floor.
The Bankruptcy Self-Help Center’s purpose is to assist Chapter 7 filers who are appearing as himself or herself and not using a lawyer (pro se) and who may be having difficulty with the bankruptcy process. The Self-Help Center will provide drop-in assistance at no charge, and there are no income qualifications or barriers. However, the Self-Help Center will not take cases on an ongoing basis nor represent filers in court. They will not handle Chapter 13 cases or adversary proceedings, but will refer them to a panel of bankruptcy attorneys who will be providing free legal work (pro bono). Additional information about the Self-Help Center is contained in English and in Spanish in this flyer.
