Ordering Court Transcripts or Audio Files

For hearings/trials on or after October 1, 2023

Audio ONLY Ordering Instructions

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California uses “For The Record” (FTR), a digital audio recording system, to record court hearings.  Interested parties may obtain recordings of hearings on a flash drive or via electronic delivery for a fee as listed on the fee schedule ($34 on December 1, 2023) by completing the Transcript and Audio Ordering Form.  The completed form should then be filed with the Clerk’s Office accompanied by the appropriate fee.  The ordering party will be contacted when the audio file is ready.  The ordering party may leave a self-addressed envelope with proper postage if they would like the flash drive returned to them in the mail.

If filing electronically, please use the CM/ECF event "Request for Transcript or Audio".

NOTE:  The Meeting of Creditors (341 Meeting) is a meeting administered by the United States Trustee's office.  To obtain an audio recording of a Meeting of Creditors, please contact the United States Trustee's office at 619-557-5013.

Typed Transcript Ordering Instructions

A typed transcript of a hearing may be obtained by completing the Transcript and Audio Ordering Form, filing the form with the Clerk's Office, and forwarding the form to the transcriptionist for completion.  Approved transcriptionists are listed below.

Prior to ordering the transcript, check to see if the transcript has already been requested or already filed in the case:

  1. Using PACER (https://www.pacer.uscourts.gov), check the docket to see if the transcript of the hearing has already been filed. If already filed, for the first 90 days it may be viewed only in the Clerk’s Office but not printed, copied, or downloaded.  After the 90 days, a copy of a filed transcript may be obtained through the Bankruptcy Court Clerk's Office or downloaded through PACER.
  1. To obtain a copy in the first 90 days, you must contact the transcriptionist who will collect the appropriate fee and send you a copy of the transcript.  A “First Copy to Each Party” fee is available to all parties at a substantially reduced rate when ordering a copy of a transcript after the original. The transcriber can also notify the Clerk’s Office that you have paid for a transcript, and the Clerk’s Office can allow you access to the transcript on the docket for viewing and printing.
  1. You may contact the Clerk's Office at 619-557-5620 to see if the transcript is in the process of being transcribed or for related questions.

If the transcript has not been requested, follow the steps below:

  1. Complete the Transcript and Audio Ordering Form. You are required to file the transcript order form electronically (if a registered user) or conventionally with the Clerk's Office along with forwarding a copy to the transcriptionist you select from the approved list below.  If filing electronically, please use the CM/ECF event "Request for Transcript or Audio".
  1. Fee arrangements are made between the parties and the transcriptionist.
  1. You may contact the Clerk's Office at 619-557-5620 with questions.
