The Legal Aid Society of San Diego, Inc. hosts a no-cost Bankruptcy Self-Help Center for Pro Se Filers at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, 325 West F Street, San Diego every Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The Self-Help Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Weinberger Courthouse in the Court Library for in-person assistance beginning June 1, 2022.
Legal Aid’s free Self-Help Center has reopened allowing access to assistance by telephone, Zoom and in person (June 1, 2022). Information about the process is contained in this flyer and a completed Intake Form is required to be submitted to Legal Aid before the appointment.
The Bankruptcy Self-Help Center's purpose is to assist a Chapter 7 filer who is appearing as himself or herself and not using a lawyer (pro se) and who may be having difficulty with the bankruptcy process. The Self-Help Center provides assistance at no charge, and there are no income qualifications or barriers. However, the Self-Help Center generally will not take cases on an ongoing basis nor represent filers in court. In limited circumstances, the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, Inc. may be able to assist clients in drafting the Chapter 7 bankruptcy paperwork.
